Diabetes is state of health that affects your body’s capability to either generate or use insulin. Insulin is helpful for your body in order to utilize the blood sugar for energy. Doctors carry out various tests to predict your blood sugar levels.
Here are different types of Blood tests for the diabetes:
A1c Test or Glycated Hemoglobin Test
The A1c test is commonly carried out by the doctors due to the fact that its results give the approximation of the blood sugar levels in due course, and you don’t have to restrict eating anything.
This test is also known by the name of glycated hemoglobin test. It gives you the clear picture of the amount of glucose attached to the RBCs in your body in a period of 2 or 3 months.
The A1c test is performed to calculate your average blood sugar for around 3 months by drawing small amount of blood from your body. If your result is:
Random Blood Sugar Test
This test is associated with drawing your blood at any time, regardless of when you ate the last. If you get the results that are equal to or are more than 200 mg/dL, it is an indication that you have diabetes.
Fasting Blood Sugar Test
This test is carried out when you have not eaten anything overnight, i.e. you have not had anything for around 8 to 12 hours. If your result is:
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
The OGTT is carried out two times in the span of 2 hours. Firstly, the doctor tests your blood sugar, and after this you are provided with a sugary drink. Then 2 hours later, your blood sugar is again tested for diabetes. If your result is:
Urine Test for Diabetes
The doctors do not always use the Urine Tests to make out diabetes. But they usually use them if they feel that the patient has Type 1 diabetes. Actually the body generates ketones when a fat tissue is utilized for energy and not the blood sugar. So, urine is tested for these ketones. If considerable amounts of ketones are present in the urine, this is an indication that your body is not making enough insulin.
Gestational Diabetes Tests
Gestational diabetes takes place in pregnant women. The doctors recommend testing the women for diabetes at their first visit if they find any risk factors to check if they are diabetic. Gestational diabetes occurs in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.
