Can fake news be reliable?

Below are some of the sources I used to research about the difference between fake news and “fake” news and their effects. These sources explain the causes of fake news. They do harm (sometimes not intentionally) towards society. Their report is not always the truth and may hurt others. Even if some are fake, it can still do damage and make others believe so.

What is Fake news?

This article discusses about fake news being the new spotlight onto social media. It’s being advertised economically by maximizing its ads from their websites that displays the fake news. They do it and target people that are most likely to react. Someone who will click and go onto that url. They create a following that’ll follow along and manipulate them. They create fake profiles to portray who they are, for example Russians creating a fake Facebook page. The focus on the mainstream media. This source is useful, because it explains how fake news is being implemented. It shows that fake news are made up to create followers so that it looks real. This is reliable and objective. It supports my other evidence and contributes to my topic. It gives information about my topic. This can support me in giving background information about fake news. It explains what is fake news and what they do. This can be in the introduction where I introduce my topic and such. This source helped me understand why people create fake news and why it exists.

This is a video that explains about the problem around fake news. It most occurred in the 1800’s. Fake news are happening in the internet and mostly not on known news coverage like CNN, Fox, and NBC. Fake news are targeting social media where liberals are found. News are mostly known to find recent incidents and that they will cover it more than other issues. For example, Hillary Clinton. Having to cover the new incident, they think that Hillary Clinton is equivalent to Donald Trump. This isn’t true, because Donald Trump has issues to cover also. This is where the news gives a bad perspective on the two which doesn’t give good information. This source is useful, because it explains the importance about the why the news or news reporters do a bad job reporting information about what they are discussing about. This source is objective even though it explains about how bad the news are. It explains why they are bad. This can support me in giving another perspective about my topic, the news. It gives an argumentized idea against the news and that fake news means to give made up news made by the internet.

Misinterpretation Fake news make

PewDiePie was being mention by Wall Street Journal. They explained that Disney and YouTube cut ties between with PewDiePie, because of his antisemitic jokes. Wall Street Journal made it like PewDiePie is a Nazi. He got angry that WSJ just took stuff out of context. They changed it that WSJ were targeting him and that this lead up to Disney and YouTube cutting ties with PewDiePie. WSJ also didn’t appreciated PewDiePie’s achievements and just talked about his earnings. This source can support my argument that news media like to add in unfair statements about who or what they’re discussing about. This goal of the source is to go against those news media that attack or target people or ideas/concepts of things. This evidence can be a counter argument or first starter argument that doesn’t need another source in the same body paragraph. This article will show the nasty side of the news. This can be useful to convince the audience.

Pingree, Raymond J., et al. “Checking Facts and Fighting Back: Why Journalists Should Defend Their Profession.” PLoS ONE, vol. 13, no. 12, Dec. 2018, pp. 1–14. EBSCOhost, doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0208600.

Fact checking is key to people’s trust. Not having facts would lose people’s confidence in believing in the that news. If not good then they think it might not be good journalism by the journalist or that they don’t agree with the information the journalist is speaking might be a sign of bias. Fact checking increases participant’s trust in the news and decide what is true for politics. Between democrats, republicans, and independents had different affects. This is useful if I want to add information about journalists. This can be used for explaining about why the news media are being attacked if bias or not. This source is very reliable, because sources are cited and there are multiple authors. This can support my essay, because this is the other perspective of my topic. The trust is in that journalist writing out the article. It depends if they will trust them or not. This has changed my thinking that some do fact check and that the more they do it, the more people will trust journalist. And also defending them.

This article news source was trying to explain that a group of white teens/students wearing MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) hats, were mocking a Native American elder, Nathan Philips. Teens were rallying up against the Native American and chanting about supporting trump. Nathan were instigating between the white students and another party that they were arguing with. Nathan wanted to break it up so he went it and inside the white student’s group. The white students “surrounded” Nathan and started chanting. Then a white student, Nick Sandmann, was having a stare down with Nathan playing the drums and singing. Nathan felt unease having Nick being face to face to him. Sometime after, Nathan became in tears and explained his emotions during inside the white student’s group. Most of this makes it looks like Nick was being the bad guy. He’s not, because he was trying to calm things down. The source is biased which helps me in my research, because my topic is based around being unbiased. So, this works and I can use it. This source can support my arguments that it gives information about it. This evidence can be used for against the news media. False information that makes it horrible for the victim.

The effects Fake news can create (with their trustworthy)

This is about a famous person, Wheeler Walker Jr. being harassed upon by other people, because of what he has said or tweeted on twitter. He has made a violent call to action on a certain someone who is, Nick Sandmann. The white student that was “mocking” a Native American, Nathan Philips. He said to record a video and punch his nuts, resulting in Wheeler giving all his albums signed to whoever did it. Example of a person replying to him, “Hey big man isn’t this considered a felony? either way good job getting suckered in by fake news you f– muppet.” This source is useful, because it gives examples about the stuff that can happen if news portray you has an evil person. This is reliable, because it is a real tweet by a famous person making a violent call to action. This source is objective to show what has happened if you do something like this. This fits in for one of my rebuttal paragraphs. Part of it shows the source between Nick Sandmann and Nathan Philips. This one I used is to show an example of the things he has been called out for. This has changed my thinking about people that some people really jump to conclusions and are violent.

The news is trusted in some number of percentages. The most trusted were from America news and others are low. Like under 50%. It also depends on the type of spectrum of politics they are in. A figure is shown of all news media what is the percentage people trust in those news media. Trump plays in a role that those vote for him, don’t trust the news. This is useful for my essay. Mostly my introduction or my first paragraph. This source is an evidence that’ll inform the reader the background information of my topic. This source is objective to explain to the audience. This goal of the source is to contradicts what I think, about news being not trust. This source can help me bring up background information or information to inform the reader about the source. It can bring up facts so that I can explain about my topic. With evidence backing me up, it will clarify things for the reader.

This source is about a man called Eric Clanton. He is a violent person that associates himself with the antifa. He has assaulted many people by using bike locks but most known for the incident in a free speech rally at Berkeley in April 15, 2017. He is also known for being the bike lock man. He is very anti fascist. He has been arrested many times but his charges have been freed. This source is useful, because if there is hate upon some people, there will be people that will attack you. If bad reputation were to put on you and rumors you being a fascist, people like Eric Clanton will assault you. This source give an example what might happen if news create false information, let’s say Donald Trump being a bad person, then people will get the wrong idea. This source is objective. This evidence helps me show an example what would happen if people don’t like you. This is helpful, because it talks about a person using violent acts against “fascists” people. I always knew this people and my mind is blown due to what he has done.

How Fake news can be stopped

A plugin was made. It was made by an ad blocker developer called Eyeo Gmbh. The plugin is called Trusted News. The plugin is for google chrome. The plugin is to “warn” users about the news source they are reading in. It classifies what is what, biased, untrusted, or clickbait. It uses it data to describe what that news source is so you can also review it on your own by giving feedback to the plugin what you think. So it’ll be the majority’s vote. The point is to help users using the product against news source they don’t know. This source is helpful, because other people are tired of fake news and want to warn people about it. So making a plugin like this would help those that don’t research much. This source is objective to explain about the call to action. This source helps fit in my body paragraph explaining about the idea of my call to action. This help shapes the reader thoughts about if this will be useful. This has changed my thinking about what to do for fake new.

An experiment was made. It was around 1,000 participants to test how much trust they have for news sources. For lesser known sites, they trust less and disregard those. Mainstream media get a more rating trust than other fake news. Fake news are more appearing in the internet so it makes sense to implement crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing would help make fake news sources not get spread from social media sites. Although less effective, it would still help. Facebook has also been doing crowdsourcing since 2018. This source is helpful, because it explains about a solution that can help make fake news stop being exposed to new people. New people would see it less and would not share it often as it is new or interesting to spread around. This source is different. This is more of argumentative showing a call to action about fake news. This source fits in my body paragraph supporting my call to action in a way to stop fake news. This source is very helpful in finding a way to stop fake news, because there isn’t much other than looking away or researching the news yourself. This has changed my thinking in what is there to stop fake news.
