EC2 Deployment Made Easy

Over the past couple weeks I was tasked with deploying a number of EC2 instances. While elastic beanstalk makes this task relatively simple, I wanted to provide a step by step guide for anyone who is looking to deploy their EC2 instance manually. Below are the steps that I took in order to get my applications deployed quickly and with minimal hiccups.

2. You are now in the EC2 console. Go ahead and select your virtual machine. which is free tier eligible.For me, the free options satisfied my requirements so I opted for the Amazon Linux 2 AMI (HVM) which is free tier eligible. After selecting your VM you will be prompted to select your instance type. Again, I opted for the free tier. Once select, go ahead and click the “review and launch” button at the bottom of the page. You will be prompted to have one last look and if everything look good — all that is left to do is hit “launch”!

3. It’s that simple! You now have a EC2 instance up and running! While there is plenty more to dive into (security groups, VPNs, etc), this brief tutorial will get your basic EC2 deployed.
